| For those of you who find history to be dry and prefer fast-paced adventure novels, I think you will find that this first-hand account of Napoleon's 600,000 man assault into Russia is a real page turner. De Se'gur, one of Napoleon's aids, writes of one of the most colossal military defeats in recent times. You'll come to understand a bit of who Napoleon was and why, after concurring all of western Europe, his Army was wholly destroyed in his attempt to conquer Russia. And if you think you already know the reason, (the infamous Russian winter), I think you will see that Alexander the Great, out-matched on the battle field, delivered Napoleon a political defeat from which Napoleon was not able to recover. However, Alexander's victory required an almost unimaginable sacrifice. This is one of the most readable history books I have read and is a great history book, particularly for those who think they don't like history books. |
